The Role

As the head of Satellite Operations, you lead complex, multi-disciplinary engineering projects using your aerospace and software engineering expertise and product vision. You define requirements with Loft Orbital executives and customers, and you interface with Loft Orbital's satellite bus and ground segment partners. You own the definition and implementation of our satellite operation product roadmap, and you will be instrumental in building out Loft Orbital’s satellite operations team.

Main Responsibilities

Primary responsibilities will be to lead various technical efforts associated with satellite operations. This includes reviewing project execution plans, providing inputs to the project prioritization process, building processed to handle deconflicting resource contention issues, monitoring and reviewing project activities and accomplishments, and briefing summary project results, issues and recommendations to company executives and customers. You will implement strong program management protocols along with integrating internal and external efforts into a coherent overall project.

In a typical week, you will

  • Build the SatOps customer cloud-based interface, gathering requirements from customers to iterate with them on the CONOPS needs.

  • Define and implement the backend SatOps architecture, enabling satellite tasking based on multiple payloads tasking requests from multiple customers

  • Liaise with the Satellite Campaign Management team to validate the compatibility of selected rideshare payloads onboard a satellite from a CONOPS perspective.

  • Liaise with Loft Orbital’s ground segment and satellite bus partners as needed

  • Provide inputs and review the definition of system and satellite operational concepts

  • Travel Requirements: Periodic domestic and international travel to interact with Loft Orbital’s customers and technical partners

Requirements

  • BS or MS in Aerospace engineering from world class engineering university

  • Orbital dynamics experience

  • Software development experience, delivering production-grade products

  • 3-7 years of experience in spacecraft operations engineering for LEO, 3- axis stabilized spacecraft, with responsibility for one or more platform subsystems or instruments during operational validation, commissioning or routine operations phases

  • Must be energetic, creative, and self-motivated

  • Experience with LEO constellations is a plus

  • Experience in a startup is a plus

  • International Experience is a plus
