The Role

As the head of Satellite Systems, you lead complex, multi-disciplinary engineering projects using your space systems engineering expertise and product vision. Your main mission is to enable the seamless operations of multiple Earth Observation payload types on a standard LEO satellite bus. You define requirements with Loft Orbital's executives and customers, and you interface directly with Loft Orbital’s satellite bus and integration partners. You lead the definition and implementation of satellite / payload configuration and integration roadmap. You play a pivotal role in leading and building the Satellite Systems team at Loft Orbital.

In a typical week, you will

  • Define all interfaces between the satellite bus and the payloads, liaising with Loft Orbital’s satellite bus partners and customers

  • Gather customers’ detailed payload requirements and ensure overall technical reliability for all customer payloads flying on the satellite campaign

  • Define the complete technical roadmap for the satellite campaign, from configuration design to flight model delivered to Loft Orbital’s launch partner, with careful consideration of the broader regulatory context.

  • Liaising with Satellite Campaign Manager to validate the compatibility of selected rideshare payloads onboard a satellite from a satellite bus perspective.

  • Review and validate interface control documents.

  • Define and implement best practices and processes for selecting multiple payloads to fly onboard a single satellite

  • Travel Requirements: Periodic domestic and international travel to interact with Loft Orbital’s customers and technical partners

Requirements

  • MS in Aerospace engineering from world class engineering university

  • 7-15 years of experience in LEO satellite systems engineering, including responsibilities for bus subsystems and for payload integration.

  • Experience with full lifecycle of a satellite mission (from system design to end of operational lifetime) is desired.

  • Experience with AIT for large LEO satellite campaign

  • Must have excellent communication skills, and able to convey technical information in its broader context clearly to decision makers, both internally and externally.

  • Must be energetic, creative, and self-motivated
